With Motherwell facing a Rangers side still reeling from getting beat by Aberdeen midweek, today’s other semi-final had the potential to throw in a possible cup upset for the Ibrox club.

Celtic will face Rangers in the League Cup final at Hampden

Brendan Rodgers now knows he must beat Rangers after they eventually took care of Motherwell 2-1 at Hampden today.

A goal from Andy Halliday was cancelled out by Cyriel Dessers and Nadim Bajrami to ensure that the Ibrox club booked their place against Celtic and now both clubs will go up against each other in just over a month’s time to win the first piece of silverware this season.

The Celtic boss would have been delighted with whoever he got in the final because after watching his Celtic team dismantle Aberdeen yesterday, neither Motherwell nor Rangers would have held any fear for Rodgers or the Parkhead players.
