Celtic fans have been enjoying the Rangers manager hunt unfold in front of them after Steven Gerrard decided not to take the job on.
Ibrox fans were in fever pitch and were convinced Gerrard was returning to help Rangers end Celtic’s dominance over Scottish football.
And as Gerrard walked away from Rangers, a new name has now become the favourite to come to Ibrox and challenge Celtic.
The Daily Record says former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is now said to be the Rangers frontrunner and it led Michael Stewart to deliver him a warning about coming to Glasgow as the man tasked to take on Celtic.

Michael Stewart warns Danny Rohl that Rangers are in ‘Celtic’s shadow’
With the Rangers managerial job taking a twist, Stewart sent new Ibrox managerial candidate Rohl a warning about taking the Rangers job and trying to challenge Celtic.
Stewart said on The Scottish Football Podcast, “This is the key point, I think, in all of this, because as much as we can project into the future and say, how would a Danny Rohl do?
“There’s not an exact science in any of this, but you do your little bit of research, you’re in the game, you speak to people, and Dodds has already spoken to a couple of people, you get a feel for what’s this looking like. But the one thing, you don’t have to be involved in the game, you just need to use your brain here.
“As a 36 year old coach, who’s had 80 odd games at Sheffield Wednesday, he will not have the experience of understanding the size of club that Rangers are and the problems that are in there.
“So straight away, I’m going to myself, well, he’s not got the skill set to handle what is happening at Rangers.
“And the difficulty in the problem that Rangers find themselves in at the moment is that ever since they started this journey coming up through the leagues, the club is massive and the expectation is huge, but they’re in the shadow of Celtic.
“And that isn’t acceptable to the fan base. So the pressure on any manager that’s coming through the door is monumental. And to be able to handle that pressure is not easy, and there’s few people that can do it.”
Danny Rohl’s managerial record is not something Celtic fans should fear
Rohl was said to be a young up and coming manager in his days as a coach at Germany, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen and RB Leipzig.
However, Rohl’s first-ever managerial gig came at Sheffield Wednesday in 2023 where he lasted just under two years before leaving in 2025.
Here is his record over that time:
- Games: 89
- Wins: 34
- Draws: 19
- Losses: 36
- Points per game: 1.36
- Goals scored: 122
- Goals conceded: 137
Not the most impressive record by any manner of means and certainly not one that Celtic should fear under Rodgers.
