Michael Stewart explains how his house reacted to Celtic’s penalty award at Rangers as the Premier Sports pundit admitted that ‘a few cheers’ went up when John Beaton agreed with VAR’s intervention.

With just minutes to go, VAR spotted a Dujon Sterling handball and the resulting penalty meant Reo Hatate scored Celtic’s equaliser to share the spoils inside Ibrox.

But it was the reaction inside Michael Stewart’s house that will interest Celtic fans as he revealed the mixed emotions at his home just before Hatate slotted the ball home at the third attempt.

Ally McCoist’s tears over Celtic’s penalty are brilliant.

What is he talking about??

Stewart told the Scottish Football Social Club, “I’ve got to say there were a few cheers going up around the Stewart household when that penalty was given.

“And then there were a few panic moments thinking Butland’s pretty good at saving these. So, yeah, it was a few cheers, the perfect score.

“The perfect score for the excitement to continue.”

Michael Stewart’s ‘genuine’ Hearts, Celtic and Rangers title prediction

The result means that Celtic are now eight points adrift of Hearts with a game in hand against Aberdeen to play tomorrow night.

And now, Stewart admits that it would be ‘foolish’ to say the Tynecastle club are not in with a chance to win the Scottish Premiership title now.

Stewart continued, “Well, confidence is definitely growing week by week. But look, I think anybody that sits here and tells you, and I’ve said this almost every week now, that tells you who’s going to win the league is just being foolish.

“Because that’s the genuine excitement about this. It’s too close to call. It’s too close to call.

“Hearts have got the best chance they’ve had in 40 years to win the league, and there is no reason now for me sitting here looking, no reason, that I look at it and think that they can’t do it.”

Celtic’s title chances – our verdict

Celtic have 11 fixtures to go and simply cannot afford to drop any more points. With the top-six split coming up at the end of March, the title race will depend on who can handle the pressure more.

The Bhoys have been in worse positions over the last 25 years and still gone on to win the league against better Rangers sides.

However, the lack of quality in the depth of Celtic’s squad could be a huge factor in whether or not the title will remain at Celtic Park this season.

The only real hope of winning it rests on the fact that Martin O’Neill is back in charge at Celtic, because without him, this race would have been over weeks ago.
