Former Celtic winger Mohamed Elyounoussi has admitted he still keeps in touch with some of his old friends at the club and looks out for the Bhoys’ results.
The Norway international spent two successful seasons on loan in Glasgow, registering 24 goals and 14 assists in 67 appearances, helping the Bhoys win the treble in 2019/20.
Now, he is a central figure at Copenhagen, where he has netted 18 times in 56 outings since joining on a free transfer in 2023.
According to reports, he was available earlier this summer for around £2.5 million due to a release clause in his contract at the Danish giants. However, despite being a popular name among supporters, he won’t be returning to Celtic any time soon.
Speaking about his love for the Bhoys, Elyounoussi has revealed he still keeps in contact with some of his old colleagues from afar.
Mohamed Elyounoussi on his love for Celtic
Per Football Scotland, Elyounoussi has wished Celtic well for the coming season and revealed he regularly keeps in touch with his ex-teammates. He also recently spoke to John Kennedy and has a lot of admiration for the Bhoys despite now residing in Denmark.
He explained, firstly about the Glasgow Derby: “The derby is an amazing fixture to be involved in. It was a shame in the second season when we had Covid and fans were not allowed into the matches. It wasn’t the same. I remember the previous year and the derbies were incredible. The League Cup final stands out, of course. Hampden was shaking. I’d never experienced anything like it. These games are very special.

“The first one of the season can have a big psychological factor, in terms of the momentum and confidence you can take from a victory. There is a long time left in the season, of course, but it is really good to win the first one, especially at home. Celtic have done really well in the recent Old Firm games and they are on a good run. They have also started the season really well. I hope they can continue that this weekend.”
Later, he finished by saying: “I still watch the Celtic games and I am still in touch with some of the boys. I spoke with John Kennedy a few weeks ago, so I follow what is happening at the club. I’m still a big Celtic fan and I’m hoping they can have a good season like last year.”
Celtic are in Glasgow Derby action this weekend against Rangers and will need to summon some of the spirit referenced by Elyounoussi if they are to prevail on home soil.
There may also be room for some new arrivals to experience a baptism of fire after joining the club. Alex Valle is one potential candidate who could be thrown in after his loan move from Barcelona was sealed yesterday.
More new faces may arrive before the deadline as Celtic scour the market. However, time is of the essence, so they will need to move swiftly.
