More details have emerged about Ange Postecoglou’s mindset during his second season at Celtic.

The Australian departed the club earlier this week for a shot at the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur.

His exit has divided opinion amongst the Celtic support with some fans understanding, others thankful and many unhappy.

Earlier in the week, we reported how Spurs’ hunt for a new manager had led them to Postecoglou.

Now, we’ve found out more about interest in Ange this season and what his intentions were.

Journalist David Davutovic has penned an insightful article for Aussie outlet Keep Up which covers the goings-on during the 2022/23 campaign.

It is a pro-Postecoglou report rather than pro-Celtic, but it is still interesting to ponder its findings.

Davutovic says that three Premier League clubs — Brighton, Wolves and Southampton — “made a move” for Postecoglou since the start of the season.

It is reported that Postecoglou was “adamant he did not want to leave Celtic in the lurch”. His long-term plan was to join a new club during a pre-season.

The report outlines that Postecoglou still had intentions to continue in to a season three with Celtic, but that the Spurs opportunity opened up unexpectedly.

So it seems very much like Ange didn’t take his first opportunity to move to England. Spurs were not the first, second, or even third Premier League side to move for him.

My own personal take on this situation is that supporters are entitled to act whatever way they see fit at this juncture.

Postecoglou was an adored figure in Glasgow and it hurts that he didn’t want to stay for longer, even if the lure of the Premier League is obvious.

But, at the end of the day, he stayed and completed a record-breaking treble.

In time, that is how he will be remembered rather than the way he departed.
