Former Motherwell manager Steven Hammell has joined Celtic in a newly-created role.
The 41-year-old has won the race to become our head of coaching, as reported by the Daily Record.
It’s a new position that has been brought about by the SFA. Hammell is said to have been backed by recently departed Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou.

Hammell was last seen in the game as manager of the Fir Park outfit.
He was in charge of the Premiership side for around eight months before being sacked after a Scottish Cup loss to Raith Rovers.
Not a great deal else is known about the role although the report says that he will be “heavily involved in coaching structure, philosophy of the club and mentoring future coaches.”
Hammell seemed in awe of Celtic’s football earlier in the season.
After a defeat in November he hailed us as “one of the best teams in the league for years”.

It is not clear when Hammell will start his new role, or exactly what we will see if he is successful.
His Motherwell teams did try to pass the ball about so his philosophy does seem to be pretty closely aligned with Celtic’s.
With bags of experience of Scottish football, he seems like a good fit for the role.
