Summer Celtic signing Moritz Jenz has made it clear just how much he is enjoying life in Glasgow this weekend, giving an interview to Transfermarkt.

Jenz arrived at the Bhoys on an initial season-long loan from Lorient, with Celtic holding the option to buy should his move turn out to be a success.

So far, it’s going quite well, with the German getting plenty of minutes alongside Cameron Carter-Vickers due to Carl Starfelt’s injury in the early stages of the campaign.

He’s absolutely loving his experience at Celtic so far, telling Transfermarkt: “Celtic is old school, Celtic is mysterious, Celtic is pure football and above all Celtic is a religion. When you stand at a home game, close your eyes and get goosebumps just from the chants, you know why this club fascinates the world.

“Nobody calls me Moritz anymore, they just say Mercedes. A few weeks ago I went jogging with my dog at 6am because I thought no one would see me.

“Suddenly a large number of construction workers called down from a high-rise building: ‘Hey Mercedes, stop, we want a photo.’ They actually stopped work so they could take a picture with me. Unbelievable, but somehow also incredibly beautiful. The city is really green and white.”

Jenz, even before getting any minutes in a Celtic shirt, made it clear to reporters and fan media that he’s eyeing a long-term stay at the Bhoys – that’s nothing new. But it seems the time since then has only solidified his desire to make it at Celtic Park.

Time will tell whether he can achieve that. Starfelt’s return from injury and Yuki Kobayashi’s arrival on a five-year contract means that competition for places in Ange Postecoglou’s defence is fiercer than ever.

The big German will need a brilliant second half of the season to play his way into a stay beyond the summer. Fingers crossed he can impress because his attitude and adoration for the Bhoys are fantastic.
