"My hero"; Highly-rated EPL prospect using Celtic star as inspiration
Manchester City youngster Cieran Slicker is using Celtic star Joe Hart as inspiration to try and make it into Pep Guardiola’s plans at the English club.
Slicker has been at City since he was a boy and is now starring for their U23 side on a regular basis. He made his senior debut in a friendly against Preston North End during the summer and aims to make it to the top one day.
The Scotland U21 international has now revealed a bond with Hart, who he idolised growing up and training at the cash-rich club.
Speaking to The Glasgow Times, he said: “Joe Hart was my hero growing up. When I was younger I was a ballboy at City too so I used to watch him up close. I tried picking up as much as I could.
“Over the past few years, I have spoken to him quite a lot. I was lucky enough to be able to be in a position to speak to him. Joe is a great guy and a great goalkeeper as well with a great career behind him.
“His advice to me was to try and play as many first-team games as I could and to never give up. He told me to try and get first-team exposure and that’s what I am looking to do now.”

It sounds likes Slicker is looking to move out on loan based on Hart’s advice, which could be his route into the senior set-up at City.
Hart is a leader and has already made that apparent in a Celtic jersey, filling in for Callum McGregor when the midfielder was out with a hamstring injury.
Having him at Celtic has been a definite benefit, between the sticks as well as in the dressing room.
It’s great to hear how influential he has been in another’s career, with plenty of young players at Lennoxtown who need guidance and direction.
