Neil Lennon could rue risking Celtic stars at AIK
Celtic manager Neil Lennon could rue playing two big Hoops stars against AIK.
Both men hobbled off injured leaving fans wondering the decision making behind it.
With Rangers up on Sunday, is Lennon going to regret the bold move?
Celtic are risking Rangers match for AIK result
On paper it couldn’t have been easier for the Scottish champions against AIK.
Their powderpuff attack and poor defending allowed The Bhoys to dictate the game.
Celtic went into the game two goals up and were comfortable throughout the second leg.
However, Lennon was worried momentarily when Ajer hobbled off in the first 15 minutes. The Norwegian was an injury doubt before the game as he also came off against Hearts last Sunday.
Nevertheless, a threadbare squad means that these players are going into the squad.
The Hoops deploying Tony Ralston is the response by Lennon even when he is struggling.
On Sunday, new Bhoy Mortiz Bauer can slot in at right-back with Ajer at centre-back.
However, with Ajer a greater doubt, will it be the makeshift Nir Bitton making a return to the defensive line?
Was the game big enough to start Ajer or was Lennon forced to make a decision?
Odsonne Edouard decision also baffling
Despite many calls from the commentary box by Chris Sutton, Lennon kept Edouard on the pitch.
He is clearly carrying a wrist or hand injury and that was before going off holding his leg in Sweden.
Edouard is someone Lennon should be wrapping in cotton wool for Sunday’s clash.
Celtic can’t risk the game on Sunday with Edouard playing in foregone conclusions.
Lennon can rue his mistakes from the AIK match. However, until then fans will need to hope that both men recover as soon as possible.
