Neil Lennon delivers update on Kieran Tierney situation
Celtic manager Neil Lennon has given an update on the future of Kieran Tierney and reiterated that the club are in a strong position with regards to the player.
The Daily Record recently reported that interested party Arsenal had seen a third bid rejected by the Scottish champions. It was believed that the Gunners were ready to turn attention elsewhere after realising that a deal may not be met.
That may still have been the case. However, Lennon claims he’s only heard of two bids.
“It’s as you were really”, he told the Daily Record. “I’ve had no information other than there was two bids that came in from Arsenal that were rejected.
“There has been no further inroads into that really. Our valuation of Kieran wasn’t met and it’s as simple as that. You will see other transfers not going through because valuations haven’t been met. It’s not a case of Arsenal being disrespectful.
“They put a bid in that they valued the player at. They came back again and obviously see Kieran as a very good player, as we do. But on a long-term contract we’re in a very strong position when it comes to Kieran.”
Lennon seems confident that Tierney will stay
For all the chatter surrounding the Scotland left-back this summer, very little has actually happened.
No matter how many bids the Gunners have had rejected, they’ve still failed to meet a fair valuation that Celtic are willing to accept. If they’re now ready to step away after weeks of negotiations then that’s their prerogative. You certainly won’t hear too many Celtic fans complaining.
We just want to see our favourite son back on the pitch, doing what he does best. The majority of supporters won’t be too disappointed at the prospect of the club missing out on £25million.
We know that Tierney is likely to go for that and more in the future if he can get back to his best for us. His fitness is a slight worry but his ability isn’t in question.
He’ll get one hell of a reaction if and when he pulls on the green and white hoops again.
