Neil Lennon ditched “fake” social media because it took up too much time

Celtic boss Neil Lennon has given an insight into why he decided to come off of social media.

During his first stint in the Parkhead hotseat, the Hoops gaffer was regularly found giving his thoughts on a Twitter feed.

However, Lennon ditched social media shortly afterwards and has now given an interesting insight into his thought process.

“I’ve been on it myself and experienced it”, he told press on Friday, as shown on the club’s official YouTube channel.

“It took up way too much of my time, and a lot of it was a lot of nonsense.

“You get a lot of fake stories that emanate and people jump on that.

“It’s not real. It’s really not real. People can be a hero one day and a villain the next. It’s just not the real world.

“If they want to do it that’s their own personal choice. I can’t force them not to do it. But sometimes you’re just better off without it.”

Lennon has shown his maturity this time around

Lennon is clearly not a huge fan of social media nowadays, as was highlighted in his blast towards Leigh Griffiths last month.

In mid July, the Hoops boss criticised Griffiths saying: ““He needs to stop all the social media nonsense with all these slogans he puts out there.

Lennon is clearly a much more mature character than his first stint as boss, and it’s shown in comments like the ones made today.

The most interesting aspect was when he mentioned the time he used to waste on social media.

Now, he will be spending that time working on things that impact Celtic or, even better, relaxing away from the pressure of top level sport.

Social media posts mean little in reality. Lennon’s real prizes are dished out in May.
