Neil Lennon gives update on Kieran Tierney injury

Neil Lennon says he expects to see Kieran Tierney back in Celtic training in as little as one or two weeks.

The Scotland international is still recovering from a double hernia operation he had during the summer. He’s been in rehab since then but could be about to re-enter the fold just as Celtic’s season starts to get interesting.

“He’ll be fit in a week or two,” Lennon told the Scottish Sun.

“He still has some adductor pain but the pubic problem is starting to settle and he’s over the double hernia.

“I know there’s talk of him being out for another eight weeks, but that’s nonsense.

“I don’t know where that’s come from because that’s certainly not the case at all.

“Listen, he’s missed the whole of pre-season but I’d say he’s more or less a week away from getting back on the grass and getting back integrated to the training.”

Lennon has delivered some really positive Tierney news

The news of Tierney’s impending return can only be seen as a positive for the club. So much has been made over the 22-year-old’s potential move to Arsenal and recent injuries that you did wonder if he’d ever pull on the hoops again.

Of course, Tierney could still move to Arsenal before the Premier League window closes on Thursday evening. But it does look increasingly likely that he will be staying put.

Celtic have been at their swashbuckling best in recent weeks so it’s remarkable to think that the starting line-up could get even better. Tierney slotting back in at left-back would make us an even stronger unit. It’s almost scary to imagine what he and Mikey Johnston could do on that side.

It’s been said about a number of Celtic’s returning first-teamers this summer. But Tierney would really be like a new signing if and when he re-enters the fold.
