Neil Lennon has told Celtic in no uncertain terms where the club should be pointing the finger of blame after the latest VAR shambles at Tynecastle on Sunday.
Brendan Rodgers saw his side’s hopes of reclaiming the top spot in the league vanish after the video referee encouraged Don Robertson to review two major incidents that led to a Celtic red card and a penalty award against his side.
Both decisions have been roundly criticised over the past few days and whilst most of that criticism has been aimed at John Beaton on VAR, Lennon believes he knows exactly where the blame lies for the shambolic officiating display.
Lennon said [PLZ Soccer], “I thought it when it was brought in, it’s a video-assisted referee so I agree with you, it’s a referee’s decision.
“So I know John Beaton was brought into the argument yesterday but it was Don Robertson who made those decisions.
“And for me, that’s where I would point the finger if it was on the Celtic panel or the Celtic squad or the bench because I don’t understand how you could come to those decisions.”
In a way, I get where the former Celtic boss is coming from. Robertson is the man who gets the final say on the decisions in the game.

However, the seeds of doubt must have been planted as soon as Beaton chirped in Don Robertson’s ear to tell him to review both incidents.
How often do referees stick by their original decision after being called over to the VAR monitor? Not many from my experience of watching football.
So whilst the blame does lie with the matchday referee, Beaton must also be held to account for claiming clear and obvious errors were made when, it seems, there were not.
