Celtic’s European performances haven’t gone as well as many would have liked, with only one point registered from this season’s Champions League campaign.
Both Celtic and Brendan Rodgers’ records in Europe don’t make good reading and the hope is that there is some form of life against Feyenoord.
Neil Lennon was queried about that record and how the Celtic boss has ‘one win in 33’, but he issued a classy response by stating ‘I am not going to sit here and criticise Brendan or his European record’, as he told PLZ Soccer.
Whatever your thoughts about Brendan, he has done a lot for the club and the hope is to go to the next level in his second stint.
Yes, winning the title again is the main aim, but progressing in Europe is the biggest challenge.
For that to happen, changes will need to be made, including via the transfer market and proven quality coming in.
But for Neil Lennon, he thinks that Brendan Rodgers can be more ‘adaptable’, in terms of his formation.
Brendan Rodgers and Celtic in Europe
“You mentioned it’s 25 years on (from Martin O’Neil’s blueprint at Celtic),” said Peter Martin. “But he (Rodgers) is one win in 33 in Europe.”
Lennon responded: “I am not going to sit here and criticise Brendan or his European record. He needs to find a way of changing that.
“I thought with him being the way he is, he might have been flexible with the formation. He can be adaptable and go from a back three to a back four. I see him doing that with Leicester.”

Celtic v Feyenoord
Look, the mood is glum after that first league defeat of the season at Kilmarnock and the best medicine is securing three points against Feyenoord.
Celtic know they will finish bottom of Group E, but just winning tonight’s game, will bring its financial rewards.
Plus, it would end the club’s barren winless run in Europe, which needs to be shaken off ahead of next season.
The 2024/25 Champions League campaign will see extra matches played and a change of system, of course, it wasn’t needed, but FIFA, UEFA and football, in general, are the kings of changing something that isn’t broken.
