Neil Lennon is one step closer to returning to the managerial dugout. Last week, the former Celtic manager was set for an interview with Greek side Olympiacos.
It seems that the interview has gone well and Lennon is now on a three-man shortlist as the Greek side takes their time on hiring a replacement for former manager Michel. [The Sun]
The ex-Real Madrid legend resigned from the Greek Super League club after some poor form has seen the side reach just third place in the table.
If successful, Lennon will be expected to deliver silverware for Olympiacos. They are Greece’s most successful club and are the current defending champions.
Indeed, this kind of pressure is no stranger to Lennon having delivered the last of the Quadruple Trebles. He also delivered the league title and Scottish Cup to complete the Treble Treble after Brendan Rodgers left Celtic to join Leicester City.
Lennon also had a short spell with Omonia Nicosia in which he delivered the Cypriot Cup in what was the club’s first piece of silverware in almost ten years.
He also took them into the Europa League group stages where he faced Erik ten Haag’s Manchester United, Real Sociedad and Sheriff Tiraspol.
Lennon was dismissed from Omonia after a club statement said that ‘competitive instability’ and the ‘significant loss of points in the championship’ forced the board to remove him from his position. [Omonia FC]
The Northern Irishman is still highly regarded because of those achievements and, clearly, he looks like he is in with a good chance of landing one of the biggest club jobs in Greece.
