Celtic boss Neil Lennon has given a promising fitness update on striker Leigh Griffiths, the Herald reports.
Griffiths has not featured for the Hoops so far this season, as he has been dealing with a calf injury. However, he is now back in training, and could feature for the Hoops against St Mirren on Wednesday night.
“Griff will hopefully be available for Wednesday but the rest of the squad is healthy” Lennon said, as quoted by the Herald.
Brief comments yet to the point
Those might be brief comments from the Celtic boss. However, they say a lot, especially when it comes to Griffiths. Before the international break, he didn’t seem to be anywhere near the Hoops first-team.

However, with those remarks, Lennon has changed all that, and Griffiths may make his long-awaited return in midweek.
Unlike the second-half of last season, when he and Odsonne Edouard ripped the Premiership apart as a goalscoring duo, Griffiths might find it harder to get game time when he returns.
Not only does he have Edouard in competition, but Albian Ajeti has had a very promising start to his Celtic career. Patryk Klimala has also performed quite well in flashes.
However, Griffiths doesn’t lack confidence on the pitch. That was shown in his excellent run of form in the second-half of last season.
Striker will back himself to score goals
He would no doubt back himself to find the back of the net on a regular basis when given the chance. After all, it is what he has done throughout his career.

Should Griffiths indeed return in midweek, it will mean that Celtic have four first-team strikers battling it out for a place in the side. Normally that might be considered too many to have in a squad.
However, in this unique season you can’t take anything for granted. With his scoring record, Celtic should be looking to keep Griffiths, not move him on.
The last game Celtic played before the football shutdown last season was against St Mirren, and Griffiths helped himself to a hat-trick in a 5-0 win. Now it looks like he could be making his long-awaited return against the Paisley side.
In other news, Neil Lennon’s call for fans to attend games is likely to go unheard.
