Celtic are certainly going to add more new faces in the transfer window this summer. Brendan Rodgers has already stated that he intends to have Carl Starfelt’s replacement in the door before the end of the week.

Gustaf Lagerbiekle has been heavily linked to be the next player to join the club but former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, has highlighted two key areas he would like to see strengthened to allow Brendan Rodgers’ men to compete in the Champions League group stages.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer, Lennon said, “I’d like to see them get another striker in. I’d worry if Kyogo was out for any period of time.

“I’d like to see more physicality in midfield. You know, like a [Victor] Wanyama type because to go into the Champions League they’re going to need that physicality.

“I mean they’ve got good speed in the team. But for me, looking at them even last year, they lacked height at times and they lacked that physicality when they came up against the top-quality teams.

“And I do think that they will spend a bit of money between now and the end of August as well.”

The current injury to Hyeongyu Oh means that Celtic almost certainly will add to the front line. That is, unless, Brendan Rodgers utilises Liel Abada or Daizen Maeda in that area.

Celtic have been lightweight in that defensive midfield area for two seasons now but the capture of Hyeokkyu Kwon seems to have addressed that as he does seem to bring aggression to the Hoops midfield.

But is he the man to take us forward in the Champions League? It’s difficult to tell as we haven’t seen enough of him as yet.

With just over two weeks of the transfer window to go, the Celtic fans will be keen to see more new faces being added to the squad as soon as possible. Let’s hope the Celtic board have the chequebook ready.
