Former Celtic manager, Neil Lennon, has set himself an ambitious career target as he ponders his next move in football.

67 Hail Hail told this week how Lennon almost landed himself the Olympiakos job whilst admitting that he has had other offers in Scotland.

But as he looks further to the future, Lennon has confessed that he is looking at the possibility of becoming a Director of Football and was asked if the role was to come up would he take it at Celtic.

Lennon said [The Herald print edition 12/8 page Weekend Sport pull-out Page 9], “Absolutely yeah, not just at Celtic but at other clubs. I think it’s an interesting role.

“You develop a structure for the club and you’re obviously involved in the recruitment side of things as well. You’re not hands-on with the coaching but you’re there to advise and support the manager.

“It’s a very important position at a lot of clubs. I can see myself in five or ten years’ time fitting into that role really well because I’ll have the experience and the background and the knowledge. It’s something I’m looking into.”

I’m not sure how many Celtic fans would be on board with Lennon returning to the club in such a prominent role. The feelings of the failed ten-in-a-row season still feel raw to many.

However, having said that Lennon does have a lot of experience in management and regardless of what people think of his final season at Celtic, he does know how to win.

He has proven it at Celtic twice where he started and finished our second nine in a row. He also got the Quadruple Treble over the line and was successful in Europe.

At Hibs, he brought the Edinburgh side up from the Scottish Championship in his first season after the Gorgie club spent three seasons in Scotland’s second tier.

Lennon also won the Cypriot Cup with Omonia Nicosia in his maiden season and took them into the group stages of the Europa League at the first time of asking.

There is no doubt that the former Celtic boss has a lot to offer a club in the Director of Football role, whether that is at Celtic is up for debate.
