Neil Lennon shares how he thinks Celtic’s red card appeal to the SFA will really go

The Celtic fans were greeted with the news that the club is appealing the latest red card issued to Hyunjun Yang yesterday afternoon and Neil Lennon has shared how he believes that will go.

The South Korean was given his marching orders after a VAR review of his high boot overturned his original yellow card and upgraded it to a red after Don Roberston changed his mind after being called over to the monitor by John Beaton.

And whilst the news of the appeal was welcomed by the Celtic support, Lennon has shared how he believes it will go when it is reviewed by the SFA.

Lennon said [PLZ Soccer], “I think Celtic had to make a statement. The fans would have been demanding it from the club after the performance of the officials yesterday.

“I think it’s worth appealing the red card as well.

“I have to say they might have a chance of winning that as well.”

Will Celtic win SFA appeal?

With this governing body, you never can tell. Celtic have won appeals before and whilst Hyunjun Yang’s is far from a open and shut case, Rodgers may well win this.

The fact that the Celtic winger wasn’t travelling at speed, there was no malicious intent and that the contact to Alex Cochrane (if there was any) was minimal may help swing it in the club’s favour.

It is clear from Yang’s reaction that he never meant to cause any harm to the Hearts player and the fact that Robertson issued an immediate yellow card shows that even the referee knew that as well.

But I suppose it all depends on what angle the appeal panel takes. If it watches the incident at full matchday speed then the chances of the red being overturned are much better.

But if it goes with the still images and edited version of the event that VAR showed, the likelihood of an appeal being successful looks slim.
