Jota’s future at Stade Rennais has come under the spotlight as the former Celtic fan favourite looks to be on the move again.
The Portuguese winger left Celtic last summer as Jota sealed an incredible £25m deal to join Saudi Pro League side, Al Ittihad.
The move turned sour and Jota then joined Stade Rennais to kickstart his career but has made just ten appearances so far.
Many Celtic fans do wish to see Jota return to the club as he was an exciting player who used to give our rivals nightmares.
But does the club or Brendan Rodgers really need him when you look at what Nicolas Kuhn has been producing since he joined Celtic last January?
Nicolas Kuhn’s stats show Celtic hero’s impact at the club vs Jota
Nicolas Kuhn had a difficult start to life at Celtic as the winger suffered from a health issue that hampered the beginning of his career.
However, this season the German winger has been on fire and after Sunday’s goal in Celtic’s win over St Mirren, Kuhn surpassed Jota’s goal-scoring record at Parkhead with one key metric outclassing the Portuguese winger.
| Celtic record | Minutes | Goals | Assists | Goals per 90 | Assists per 90 |
| Nicolas Kuhn | 1875 | 16 | 11 | 0.77 | 0.53 |
| Jota | 2925 | 15 | 12 | 0.46 | 0.37 |
Kuhn’s 16th goal of the season meant that the winger has now outscored Jota with over 1,000 minutes to spare.

Considering how high in regard the Celtic fans held the Portuguese star, it seems that Kuhn on the wing is a far better option than the former £25m man.
Nicolas Kuhn and Jota’s best Celtic goal
Celtic fans have been lucky to have had the pleasure of watching two first-class wingers strut their stuff at Parkhead over the last three years.
In total, Jora netted 28 goals for Celtic with Kuhn already on 19 in his short time at the club. Picking the best goal out of both players’ haul was a very difficult (but pleasurable) task so, with that in mind, here is 67 Hail Hail’s selection.
Jota
- 09/03/2022: Celtic 4 v 0 Rangers
With just two points separating Celtic and Rangers at the top of the Scottish Premiership, the Ibrox club visited Parkhead and then this happened:
The run, athleticism and the world-class dink over Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor was a goal right out of the top drawer which triggered Jota’s iconic celebration.
Nicolas Kuhn
- 05/11/2024: Celtic 3 v 1 RB Leipzig
Celtic has just got new-found belief returning to the side as they banished the memory of a drubbing in Dortmund with a 0-0 draw in Atalanta.
To keep their Champions League hopes alive, Celtic faced another German club as Leipzig came calling and they soon found out who Nicolas Kuhn was after he notched a double.
Kuhn’s first goal of the game is our pick for the German’s best Celtic goal as he cut in from the right-had side and curled in an incredible goal from the edge of the area.
That goals sparked a fightback from 1-0 down to record one of Celtic’s best-ever performances in Europe’s top competition.
