Celtic fans are winning friends all over after being lauded for the atmosphere they create in Champions League games this season.
Even during the Bhoys’ defeat to Bayern Munich, the Parkhead crowd created something special as the Champions League theme tune reverberated around Celtic Park.
Bayern Munich’s players were in awe of the Celtic supporters as even they admitted that the noise that was created spooked them in their 2-1 win over Celtic.
However, when pressed about the reputation Celtic fans have and the cauldron they create inside the stadium, BBC pundit Pat Nevin, said that even his Five Live colleagues couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

Pat Nevin said his BBC colleagues had ‘their chins on the desk’ at the Celtic fans’ Champions League noise
Nevin told BBC Radio Scotland, “I was writing a piece for the BBC website about three or four weeks ago and I was asked the question where is the best place to go and watch football?
“And, you know, you go to Liverpool, you go to the San Siro, you go to all these places.
“On a European night, or a Celtic vs Rangers game in an evening when it means something, there’s nothing like the noise in this place.
“And it was extraordinary. I was sitting with some of my colleagues from Radio Five Live at the time, honestly, their chins are on the desk and they covered all these places.
“So it’s no exaggeration. It is absolutely extraordinary. And remember the players that come here as well, from the very, very, very big clubs, they always talk about it.”
Pat Nevin says ‘very special atmosphere’ at Celtic Park almost rescued a draw vs Bayern Munich
Celtic almost snatched a draw from the jaws of defeat against Bayern last Tuesday and Nevin believes that was because of the Parkhead crowd.
“So yeah, it’s a very special atmosphere,” continued Nevin, “But that’s all very well if you’re getting beat easily, but the fact that the noise helped Celtic to get back into it, and the fan base helps out to get back into it near the end of the game.
“And, you know, had that penalty kick being given, okay, I understand why it wasn’t, but, you know, there’s another referee that may have given that one, you could have ended up with a 2-2 which have been an extraordinary result.
“And part of that is because of this place and the noise on a European night.”
With Celtic fans being allowed to travel to Germany, Brendan Rodgers will be hoping that the 2000 or so with tickets will spur his team onto a historic European result.
Whilst the noise won’t exactly reach the levels of Celtic Park, the Hoops travelling support will ensure their heroes have their full backing as they look to pull off the impossible and win in the Allianz Arena.
