‘No-name’ – Nicolas Kuhn outrageously disrespected by German media but Celtic star has last laugh

Nicolas Kuhn was the match-winner for Celtic as they swept RB Leipzig aside in the Champions League.

The winger curled in a stunning strike to equalise for the hosts after Christoph Baumgartner had silenced Parkhead with an early header.

Just before the break, Kuhn doubled his own tally and dragged the Hoops into the lead and he could have had a hat-trick in the second-half had he kept his composure on what was an incredible evening.

Kuhn’s form this season has been other-worldly at times and his statistics prove as much with nine goals and 10 assists in just 16 appearances so far.

The playmaker, 24, has been the main main in Glasgow for Brendan Rodgers’ side this term and continues to go from strength to strength with Premier League clubs already keeping an eye on the attacker.

But not everyone has been so impressed with Kuhn’s efforts – nor have the German media been particularly gracious in defeat following Leipzig’s fall at Celtic Park.

The hosts thoroughly deserved their victory and three points in the Champions League last night yet BILD disrespected Kuhn and branded him a “no-name” who had once served Leipzig’s academy.

Media outlet BILD described Nicolas Kuhn as a ‘German no-name’ who embarrassed RB Leipzig

The report reads: “In Glasgow, Leipzig was embarrassed by a German no-name professional – who, of all people, was trained in RB’s youth team. Nicolas Kühn (24/played in Leipzig from 2015 to 2018) decided the match with a brace.”

The latter is, of course, true. Kuhn spent three years as a kid with the club making his way through their youth set-up.

But the audacity of the newspaper to describe the player as a “no-name” appears to prove the German expectation was of three points in Scotland over Celts.

Was Kuhn’s first goal vs Leipzig a shot or a cross?

That wasn’t to be and it was a shattered Reo Hatate who notched Celtic’s third of the night to seal the points and pull them closer to at the very least a playoff spot in the revamped Champions League.

Kuhn was delighted to net his first goals in the competition and insisted he meant the first with some questioning whether or not it was actually a cross.

“It was my first and second Champions League goals and I enjoyed it. The first is a shot? Of course,” he said.
