That’s four trophies to Brendan Rodgers’ name in his second spell as Celtic manager.

In his first spell, Rodgers helped Celtic to seven trophies, including winning Trebles for fun, but could the forthcoming campaign be his last in Glasgow?

There has been a lot of talk around Rodgers’ contract, and whether or not he will sign on the dotted line and extend his stay at Scotland’s most successful club.

In the meantime, Celtic are preparing for the new Premiership season, including buying six players and letting ten others go, either for good or on loan.

What Celtic fans won’t accept regarding Brendan Rodgers’ contract

What’s interesting here is what the powers that be at Celtic do in the 2025 summer transfer market? Especially if they know Rodgers won’t be here in 12 months.

But Frank McAvennie made it clear that the fans simply won’t accept the board deciding not to give Rodgers big money to spend, if he decides to go.

Speaking on his Let Me Be Frank Podcast, McAvennie urged the club to bring more players in, as the opening game against St Mirren is around the corner.

Presenter Simon Houston: “Brendan Rodgers’ contract runs out at the end of the season, as we know. You might have some syncs thinking, ‘well, if he isn’t going to be here a year from now, is he going to get a huge load of money?’

McAvennie then responded: “Do you think the supporters will accept that?! Not a chance.

“I think if they offer him a decent contract, he will, but it’s nothing to do with him. It’s somebody, his agent, he will be dealing with that. I would like to see somebody coming in. A couple have gone out.”

Rodgers ‘wants to stay’ at Celtic

As of this moment, Celtic haven’t signed that statement player or brought in proven stars the fans would have liked.

In some cases, several project-like signings have arrived, including Callum Osmand and Hayato Inamura.

For some, that might indicate that Rodgers won’t be here for the 2026/27 season, but McAvennie thinks the Irishman will sign a new contract.

“I don’t think Brendan is going to go,” added McAvennie. “But if he doesn’t get the players that he wants, he has a chance of going, but he won’t go until his contract runs out.

“Discussions are ongoing? That means he wants to stay. Why don’t they just go and do it?”
