Paul Lambert reacts to Celtic and Brendan Rodgers ‘fall-out’ claim amid contract noise

Every Celtic fan wants to see Brendan Rodgers extend his stay in Glasgow.

Rodgers’ Celtic contract expires on June 30 2026, and as of this moment, he will be leaving the club at the end of that deal.

As you can imagine, it was a talking point towards the end of last season, and the noise will only continue to grow as Celtic prepare for another title defence in 2025/26.

There is no pressure cooker like Glasgow or Celtic, and one man who knows that better than anybody else is Paul Lambert, as he reacted to the Rodgers situation.

Paul Lambert on Brendan Rodgers’ future at Celtic

Lambert has only experienced life in Glasgow as a player, but he still understands that ‘the Glasgow media up there will speculate on anything.’

But when Celtic-mad Alan Brazil questioned why Rodgers hasn’t signed a new deal, and whether it was down to a ‘fall-out’ or a ‘lack of money’, it was rightfully put to bed by Lambert.

The legendary midfielder told talkSPORT, ‘there isn’t too much to read into it’, as he slammed the Scottish media for latching onto anything.

Alan Brazil asks: “I think Gordon (Strachan) did four years, and Brendan five. Suddenly I thought, ‘uh-oh, are we in for a change again here?’

“Has there been a fallout here? Is there a lack of money? What do you think is happening?”

Lambert responded: “No, I don’t think there is too much to read into it. As you probably know, as well as I do, the Glasgow media up there will speculate on anything, especially when it comes to Celtic and Rangers.

“As soon as you say one word out of turn, the media latch onto it, or you have a little bit of a gripe at something, and they will latch onto it.”

Rodgers is ‘really, really happy’ in Glasgow

The man himself has been coy on the matter and has always remained calm.

One thing is for sure: Rodgers won’t leave midway through the season, like he did last time, because fans have just forgiven him for that infamous Leicester City call.

Either way, Lambert touched upon what Rodgers’ mood is like at Celtic, and how he ‘doesn’t see anything changing.’

“Brendan, I think, is really, really happy up in Glasgow,” added Lambert. “I don’t see anything changing imminently, anyway.

“I definitely think he is really happy there. They will have Champions League football again, hopefully, this year, and the club is in a really good place, at the minute, so I don’t see that happening.”
