Odsonne Edouard has been discussing how his move to Celtic transpired and the wrench of leaving his boyhood club PSG.
Edouard, who initially joined Celtic in 2017 on loan from Paris Saint-Germain before making the move permanent a year later, scored 66 goals in 116 appearances for the Bhoys.
The Frenchman was a beloved figure during his time at Celtic Park, earning the nickname ‘French Eddy.’ Fans even created a song for Edouard called ‘I Wanna Be Edouard,’ inspired by the Stone Roses hit song I wanna be Adored.
He managed to find a home in Glasgow after being told by his former manager he had no future at the Paris side.
Speaking on the Crystal Palace website Edouard said: “I joined Toulouse FC on loan. I felt the need to quickly acquire professional playing time, especially in Ligue 1.
“At that time, it was very complicated to establish myself on the Paris Saint-Germain attack front. Zlatan Ibrahimovic then Edinson Cavani piled up the goals! When I returned to the club, the coach told me that he was not counting on me because he had recruited Hatem Ben Arfa and Jesé in attack, more experienced players. So I decided to try my luck elsewhere, which is how I signed for Celtic FC.
“It’s more of a disappointment than a regret, because I would have loved to step onto the pitch at the Parc des Princes with the red and blue jersey. Everyone makes their own way depending on the context of the moment!”

Edouard was ultimately replaced by Kyogo Furuhashi in 2021, and the Japanese international holds a different perspective, not seeing a move to Celtic as disappointing. Kyogo recently showed his commitment by extending his contract this season, and is now set to remain with the Bhoys until 2027.
Edouard joined the English Premier League side Crystal Palace in 2021 and he has gone on to make 80 appearances, scoring 19 goals.
He’s having a solid campaign this year, scoring six goals in 12 appearances – which isn’t bad at all at the elite level. The Frenchman might finally be finding his feet in London.
