Odsonne Edouard has been rewarded for his strong start to the league season by being named the Premiership’s ‘Player of the Month’ for August.

The Frenchman scored in both of the league matches he played during the month while he has since scored against Rangers too. In total, he’s scored five goals in his last nine games for the Hoops, while four international under-21 goals have also arrived.

Celtic had a few contenders who may feel they had every bit as big of a right to the award as Edouard. James Forrest and Ryan Christie have both put in big contributions from midfield, with the latter netting four goals in the month.

However, as is often the case, these awards are influenced by how the players are playing at present. The fact is that Edouard is on an incredible high while Christie has perhaps been a little more subdued in recent weeks.

Is Edouard a shoe-in for Player of the Season award?

It’s pretty difficult to see past the Frenchman claiming a number of end-of-season awards, given how he’s currently playing.

Edouard looks supremely confident in a Celtic shirt, like no setting would faze him at present. He may actually only have netted six so far this season but there’s a feeling that he’s well on route to beating his tally of 23 from last year.

Presuming he stays fit and isn’t sold in January then he would have to be a big favourite to win some of the main awards. Like August’s trophy, there will be a few Celtic players with their eyes on the prize, but Edouard is the one who all the fuss is about at the minute.

And strikers usually steal most of the limelight.
