Former Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard is having a terrific start to the season down south.
The Frenchman has netted five goals in six matches for Crystal Palace so far this season. Four of those goals have arrived in the Premier League, with the most recent against Aston Villa on Saturday.
In fact, a look at the league’s top scorers tells you that only Erling Haaland has netted more than our former hero this season. That’s not a bad place for him to be.
It’s been a largely frustrating couple of seasons in London for Edouard. He scored six goals in his first Premier League campaign and five last year. However, his time has now arrived down south. At his current rate, he’s on for 30 this season so we’ll have to wait and see if he can keep that up.
While many supporters rightfully move on from players once they depart Celtic, guys like Edouard performing well does still reflect well on us. We have had a pretty good record in recent years with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Jeremie Frimpong, and Kieran Tierney all leaving to become fan favourites at their new clubs.
Kristoffer Ajer and Ryan Christie, who both left in the same window as Edouard, haven’t gone on to the same kind of heights. Moussa Dembele has stalled a bit in recent years too, so it’s good to see Edouard and even managerial figures like Ange Postecoglou doing well.

MORE CELTIC STORIES
Away from financial benefits, like bonuses added to Edouard’s fee (Sky Sports), it is just good for the image of Celtic to have personnel leaving the club and performing well in a more high-profile league.
Who knows, it may even add a few million to eventual fees for the likes of Reo Hatate, Matt O’Riley and Alistair Johnston. Not that we should be planning to sell any of them anytime soon.
