Only three players remain from the last Celtic XI to face St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup, where are they now?

Celtic look to continue their journey towards another Treble-winning season when they face St Johnstone in the Scottish Cup semi finals.

The Hoops already have the Scottish League Cup and are closing in on a 55th Scottish Premiership title, but Brendan Rodgers will want to take home another clean sweep.

They face St Johnstone, who shocked the Bhoys with a 1-0 win just a few weeks ago and are using the cup as a welcome distraction from their league form.

It’s a first meeting in the Scottish Cup since the sides met in a quarter-final clash back in March 2020, where Ryan Christie’s late strike booked Celtic’s place in the last four.

A lot has changed in the five years since that meeting at McDiarmid Park though, with only a handful of those in the squad that day still at Celtic Park now.

So then, where are they now?

The Celtic XI that started against St Johnstone in 2020, where they are now:

Fraser Forster: Returning on loan for his second spell at the club, Forster’s standout game in that 19/20 season was his epic goalkeeping display against Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final, which included saving Alfredo Morelos’ penalty. The Celtic icon is still at Tottenham Hotspur but is a third-choice ‘keeper these days and is set to leave this summer.

Christopher Jullien: Another fan favourite, Jullien’s most memorable moment in a Celtic shirt was his winner against Rangers in the same final that Forster saved the penalty. The Frenchman struggled with injuries despite coming in for a then-hefty £7m fee in 2019. He stayed with the Bhoys until 2022, joining Montpellier, where he has been ever since.

Kristoffer Ajer: Ajer joined as a young teenager and moulded into an excellent centre-back, playing over 100 times before signing for Brentford in August 2021. The Norwegian is still in west London now but has been a bit-part player for the Bees.

Nir Bitton: The Israel international spent the best part of nine years at Celtic, winning everything there is to win with the Hoops. Primarily a midfielder, Bitton also filled in at centre-back and right-back but in 2022, Bitton signed for Maccabi Tel Aviv in his homeland. He is still playing in Israel now at FC Ashdod.

Greg Taylor: One of the three players still at the club, Taylor could be calling time on his Celtic career at the end of the season, but what a servant he has been. Taylor hasn’t always been everyone’s cup of tea, but he will be known for playing such a huge role.

Scott Brown: A Celtic legend, need I say more about Scott Brown? The skipper, leader and heartbeat of the Hoops side for so many years, you can now find him in the dugout at Ayr United. Sitting third in the table, there is every chance that he could be returning to the club if they secure promotion to the top flight.

Callum McGregor: The second of the trio still at Parkhead. McGregor is the club captain and unless he is injured, you won’t find him anywhere else other than the starting XI. A perfect replacement for Brown, the boyhood fan is still living the dream.

Ryan Christie: The goalscorer on the day, Christie was a hot-and-cold player but since moving south of the boarder to Bournemouth. Perhaps to everyone’s surprise, the Scotland international could be involved in European football again in the future as the Cherries compete for a top six finish.

James Forrest: The final one of the remaining trio from the starting XI from that afternoon in Perth. Forrest’s game time has reduced over the years but still always proves his worth. The winger is waiting for his first goal of the season but make no mistakes – he is still important to the cause.

Odsonne Edouard: Not just known for having a great chant, Edouard is one of the best strikers in modern times at Celtic. He scored 87 goals in 179 appearances but sadly, since moving on, has struggled. Following a hit-and-miss period at Crystal Palace, Edouard was sent on loan to Leicester City but hasn’t been in a match day squad since November.

Leigh Griffiths: Another prolific goal scorer to wear the green and white, Griffiths had spells at Dundee and Falkirk before moving down under to play for Mandurah City, a semi-professional club based in Australia in 2022 and he’s still here today.
