Gordon Dalziel believes Celtic captain Callum McGregor is currently performing well below his usual standards.
The Hoops, despite the noise around the club at the moment with fan unrest and a poor transfer window, have made a decent start to the season.
Heading into Kilmarnock on Sunday, Celtic are top of the Scottish Premiership and remain unbeaten in every domestic game played so far.
Granted though, performances generally and style of play in most games haven’t been very inspiring for Celtic supporters.
Players such as Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate are off colour, but Dalziel thinks McGregor has experienced the biggest drop off.

Gordon Dalziel on Callum McGregor’s poor Celtic form
Speaking as a pundit on Open Goal, Dalziel acknowledges that McGregor is a good player and has dominated Celtic as a team and Scottish football for years.
But he thinks at the moment, his form is poor, with James McFadden blaming that on the lack of freshness in the Celtic squad.
Dalziel: “I think the biggest one is McGregor. Everybody talks about, and quite rightly so, how good McGregor is and how he’s dominated the Premiership, he’s dominated Celtic as a team. But I think he’s a mile off it.
McFadden: “I know, but this is the point with the signings, the lack of signings. There’s not enough freshness into the squad.”
Dalziel: “Faddy’s right, it affects everyone doesn’t it?”
McGregor eager to please Celtic fans vs Kilmarnock
There’s no doubt McGregor isn’t his usual self, but there’s not a chance in hell he isn’t giving his all as captain of the team.
Celtic fans are right behind him, and the captain wants to put smiles back on faces at Rugby Park after a difficult couple of weeks.
McGregor said at his presser on Friday: “Again, the only thing I can echo is trying to bring that back by giving them a team that they can be proud of on the pitch, they can back on the pitch and ultimately, that are successful and win football matches.
Hopefully, with my influence and the senior players, then we can give them a product on the pitch that they’re happy with and can get behind and then, as always, we keep pushing because we always want more.”
