Celtic have been blessed during this last decade-plus of dominance.

Not only have they had winners on the field but performers who have taken fans off their seats repeatedly.

But they have had two of the best leaders guiding them along the way, the now-retired Scott Brown and the current Celtic skipper, Callum McGregor.

Both have also probably played their best football under Brendan Rodgers’ umbrella, so he would be the perfect man for this debate.

That first Rodgers spell was devastating and dominant of the highest order, with his return last summer resulting in the team winning the double and now they are going strong again.

It wouldn’t be a surprise if a Treble or another unbeaten season is around the corner because Celtic are playing like it.

Open Goal pundits pick Callum McGregor over Scott Brown

Not many would argue that when it comes to character, Brown is much louder, possibly a stronger character and someone who isn’t shy to say what he thinks.

That’s where McGregor is probably different, but they both have one thing in common: taking the ball under pressure in big games and during big moments.

The Open Goal pundits – Paul Slane, who came through the ranks with McGregor and watched Brown dominate in the green and white colours, along with Si Ferry, who is also in the same boat, picked the current skipper over Brown.

“I wouldn’t have thought he would have done what he has done,” responded Stephen O’Donnell on if he had an idea about the skipper’s rise as a youngster. “Cal was a year below me. He was the young one.”

Slane then added: “What I would say is that, in training, he was always the best player in training. That was when Celtic had a really strong midfield. I was surprised he didn’t get more games under Lennon. He went to Notts County remember? He played a year there. That’s right (with Grealish).

Si Ferry then asks: “His consistency levels were incredible, wasn’t it?! Here is one for you, McGregor or Brown as a sitter, who are you taking?”

Slane didn’t hesitate to answer and stated: “Cal, all day.” To which Ferry responded and said: “I am going to say McGregor.”

Open Goal pundits debate Aiden McGeady or James Forrest

The debates didn’t stop there because two more interesting names were dropped into the hat – Aiden McGeady, who started his career at Parkhead, and the one-club man, James Forrest.

In terms of trophies, Forrest is cleaning house and heading towards becoming Celtic’s most decorated player.

But McGeady has been across Europe a lot more, including making a name for himself in the Premier League.

When those two names were put on the table, Stephen O’Donnell seemed to push towards McGeady and the rest chipped in.

“There is a huge debate brewing, who is better McGeady or Forrest,’ asked Slane. “Who would you go?”

O’Donnell stated: “James had the better numbers, didn’t he? Goals and assists. But McGeady’s probably got a better pedigree. Both of them, I wouldn’t want to play against them.”

Si Ferry went for ‘Aiden’ and stated ‘he has done it against AC Milan and big Champions League nights’ and Slane backed Forrest.
