Simon Jordan blasts Rangers over Celtic fans’ treatment after commentator controversy

There is always a bit of drama in Glasgow, even if the season is over for Celtic and Rangers.

Last season, Celtic won the Premiership title by 17 points, including celebrating trophy day with James Forrest netting a record-breaking goal to earn a point against St Mirren.

In terms of importance, the final day results for the 2024/25 campaign had no bearing on the first or second spots, as Rangers drew 2-2 at Hibernian.

Several headlines were coming out of that match at Easter Road, from Barry Ferguson’s final game as interim boss, and controversy over a Nico Raskin goal that wasn’t given.

There was further controversy moments after that incident, and Simon Jordan had some interesting takes on it, including bringing Celtic’s name into the subject.

What is the controversy at Rangers?

Working for Rangers TV, former defender John Brown labelled the decision not to award Raskin’s goal, which had crossed the line, as ‘corrupt’.

As a result, the SFA have since fined Rangers ‘£3k’ for those comments – there is no goal line technology in Scotland, and VAR didn’t get involved in the incident.

And speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan has let rip at what he heard from Brown.

“If I am Rangers, I would get less of the attitude about who I am going to be watching, and have more of an attitude with John Brown,” said Jordan.

“I would be saying, ‘pack it in, you twerp. Why would you say that? He can’t say it’s corrupt. He doesn’t know it’s corrupt.

“He can say, ‘what an appalling, shocking and abhorrent decision’. He can’t say ‘corrupt’, because he doesn’t know it’s corrupt. He could be subject to a complaint from the referee saying, ‘Hang on, that’s defamation.'”

Simon Jordan on the SFA giving Rangers ‘dispensation’ over not allowing Celtic fans into Ibrox

For the final two Glasgow derby games of the season, away fans were back at Celtic Park and Ibrox, respectively.

This was after Rangers threw their toys out of the pram in 2018, and didn’t allow Celtic fans into Ibrox, as Scotland’s most successful club then followed suit.

With Rangers telling the SFA that they will ‘watch closely’ if other club commentators are fined for such an incident, Jordan hit out at Rangers again.

The former Crystal Palace owner stated that the powers that be at the top of Scottish football have given them ‘dispensation’ for their fans’ behaviour, as well as the ‘silly row’ over not allowing Celtic fans into Ibrox.

On Rangers saying ‘the SFA will be watched closely to ensure it’s applied across the board’: “I think that’s arrogant, isn’t it?

“Ultimately, you know damn well that your fella said something wrong. It’s indefensible. You know damn well your grudge and issue isn’t with the SFA, and you know damn well the SFA give you dispensation left, right and centre because of the behaviour of your fans and the attitude over the years.

“You were allowed not to put football fans inside stadiums for the last five years because you have got some silly row with Celtic about who offends one another the most inside their stadiums. So, pack it in.”
