Kasper Schmeichel has come under some serious heat this week after his performance in Celtic’s defeat to Stuttgart in the Europa League.

Celtic fans booed Schmeichel after two errors helped Stuttgart coast to a 4-1 win to effectively end the Bhoys’ adventure in UEFA’s second-tier competition.

Despite his poor performance, Schmeichel was named in Celtic’s starting XI to face Hibs as former Parkhead goalkeeper Pat Bonner shares how the 39-year-old was welcomed by some fans to Paradise.

Sinisalo makes the bench as Kasper Schmeichel keeps his place?

Is this the right call? Let us know in the comments.

Some Celtic fans ‘shouting’ Kasper Schmeichel off the team bus

Martin O’Neill showed some good faith in Schmeichel as he named the underfire goalkeeper in the starting XI to face but it seems some Celtic fans do not share that same sentiment.

Bonner told BBC Sportsound, “I do hope the fans give him a break today, to be perfectly honest.

“Because, listen, I was coming in earlier on, and I heard some fans even shouting at him outside before even coming off the bus, which is a ridiculous situation to be in.

“You know, you support your team no matter who plays, and of course, he has to perform.

“That’s crucial.”

Schmeichel and Celtic’s goalkeeping troubles

Schmeichel remains in the firing line as Celtic drop points against Hibs to leave Hearts in total control at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

While the result was through no fault of the Celtic goalkeeper, keeping Schmeichel in the team raises further questions on where Viljami Sinisalo fits into the Hoops’ long-term plans.

The Finn will not be happy at being denied a chance to show what he can do, which begs the question, if Sinisalo cannot get a game now, when will he ever?
