Pat Bonner thinks Celtic have signed an ‘unbelievable player’ over the summer

Celtic’s win over Falkirk in the League Cup sets Brendan Rodgers up for another Hampden date against Aberdeen in November.

In a stunning 30-minute second-half salvo, Celtic blew Falkirk away after Rodgers made four changes on the hour mark whilst 2-1 down to John McGlynn’s side.

Debutant, Alex Valle was replaced by Greg Taylor and Reo Hatate, Luis Palma and James Forrest were subbed off for Arne Engels, Hyunjun Yang and Nicolas Kuhn as the Celtic boss looked to kickstart his team into gear.

And didn’t he just. The effect was almost instantaneous as Adam Idah hit two quick-fire goals in the 70th and 72nd minute and Kuhn finished off the job with a double in the 81st and 84th minute of the game.

But it was Arne Engels who was on Pat Bonner‘s mind as the former Celtic hero lauded the Belgian for his impact on the game.

Bonner: Engels ‘compliments’ Callum McGregor

Bonner was blown away by Arne Engels in the 5-2 win and says that the Belgian has been an ‘unbelievable’ addition to the Celtic team this season.

Bonner told BBC Radio Scotland, “They also have a manager who trusts them. That’s what they have. You know, Brendan Rodgers trusts those players. That’s why he’s playing them. That’s why they’re in the team, week in, week out.

“That’s why he’s picking them in the big games to perform and by the way, they’ve got an unbelievable player in Engels.

“You know, just watching him stroll around the pitch when he comes on. He can play at different tempos. He can pass the ball off either foot, he’s always on the move, looking for it, and he can pick that pass, that pass that is critical.

“And he’ll compliment the likes of the others in the middle of the pitch, especially Callum McGregor.”

Arne Engels’ instant impact at Celtic

The Belgian has been superb since he made his debut for Celtic against Rangers in the 3-0 Glasgow Derby win.

The 21-year-old then capped that off with an impressive first start against Hearts where he coolly tucked away a penalty in the 2-0 Celtic Park win.

However, it was in the 5-1 victory over Slovan Bratislava that Engels really showed his quality with a goal and an assist in the historic Celtic win.

And after his performance yesterday and assist for Kuhn’s first goal, the Belgian international is really settling into life at Celtic and already looks like he will be a huge player for the club moving forward.
