Brendan Rodgers still has much work to do for Celtic in this transfer window but Paul Lambert believes the Hoops boss has already made a brilliant signing for the club.
The Celtic boss has made four additions to his team this summer after capturing Viljami Sinisalo, Kasper Schmeichel, Paulo Bernardo and £9.5m striker, Adam Idah.
And whilst it is the signing of Idah that has been the talk of the Celtic window, Paul Lambert believes Rodgers’ second summer signing is one that could help the Celtic manager successfully defend his title.
Kasper Schmeichel is Celtic’s ‘perfect’ signing
Lambert was talking up Kasper Schmeichel after the big Dane completed his summer move and the former Celtic hero believes the big Dane is a potential game-changer.
Lambert told The Sunday Post [print edition page 76], “Kasper is also an inspired signing. It was going to take someone very special to replace Joe and Brendan found the perfect guy.
“The goalkeeping position is vitally important and Kasper may well be worth 20 points to Celtic this season. He has stature and he is solid.
“You know he will not let you down and will also be an inspiration to those around him.”
Admittedly, Schmeichel hasn’t had much to do domestically but from what the Celtic fans saw of him against Chelsea in the US Tour, it’s clear that the Denmark ‘keeper is already popular amongst the Parkhead support.

Schmeichel looks calm, assured and good with the ball at his feet and it does seem like he will be a very good replacement for Joe Hart.
With three domestic appearances already under his belt for Celtic, the Champions League beckons for Schmeichel and that is where the veteran goalkeeper will really be tested.
However, looking at his performances for Denmark at Euro 2024, the signs are good that Rodgers has identified a big-game player who can handle pressurised games for Celtic.
