Celtic are always in the hunt for silverware and fulfilled that prophecy by claiming the Premier Sports Cup last weekend at Hampden against Rangers.
Brendan Rodgers broke hearts across the city once again and left his side’s rivals across the city in dismay by sweeping up his tenth trophy during his two spells at the club.
While debate rages on surrounding Rangers’ penalty claim against Celtic involving Vaclav Cerny, supporters of the winning team will bask in the glory of a Premier Sports Cup success that has set the scene for an exciting second half of the campaign.

While Celtic fans are keen to rub salt into their adversaries’ wounds, so to speak, the playing and coaching staff will move on to the next challenge against Dundee United at Tannadice this weekend.
With Scottish Premiership action now on the agenda, Paulo Bernardo has set out how his side plan to take their all-conquering nature to new heights.
Paulo Bernardo on Celtic’s motivations after Rangers victory
Speaking at the Celtic FC Foundation’s Christmas Party, Bernardo made clear that the Bhoys plan on winning every trophy they enter with Rodgers at the helm.
He stated: “Our mentality is to win every game, and we did it again. All we wanted was to lift that trophy and it felt so good for us as a team and a club. The mentality is so strong within the squad.
“No matter what, we know that we have to find a way to win. We won the League Cup and now we move on to the next one.
“It was important to win on Sunday and we celebrated – but now we move on. We want to win all the trophies, of course, but we need to take it step by step and not look too far ahead.”
Celtic aiming to end 2024 with a flourish
While the end goal is always the main priority, navigating matches on a weekly basis is the only way to put yourself in a position to prevail.
Aberdeen and Rangers are both in action before Celtic this weekend in the Scottish Premiership, so there is plenty of motivation to ensure no ground is lost in their surge for the title.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 15 | 14 | 1 | 0 | 44 | 4 | 40 | 43 | |
| 2 | 16 | 10 | 4 | 2 | 30 | 18 | 12 | 34 | |
| 3 | 15 | 10 | 2 | 3 | 27 | 9 | 18 | 32 | |
| 4 | 16 | 8 | 1 | 7 | 22 | 26 | -4 | 25 |
The table is in a favourable position at the moment, but one wrong move can change the picture at play for any side near the summit.
Enjoying cup success will last for weeks. However, now is the time for Celtic to make sure they finish 2024 with a flourish.
