Peter Grant has told Celtic that they could be better off by sticking with Martin O’Neill until the end of the year.

O’Neill has been in charge for the past four games since returning alongside Shaun Maloney on an interim basis, and impressed.

There seem to be three main candidates for the Celtic job, and talks have been held with figures in London.

Dermot Desmond is also planning on speaking to O’Neill about his future amid the search, and Grant thinks discussions should be held about staying on a bit longer.

Poll: Who would you like to become the new Celtic manager?

Grant was speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, where the topic of the new Celtic manager was heavily discussed.

Wilfried Nancy seems to be the main option, but the former Hoops man thinks that keeping the 73-year-old for the Premier Sports Cup final may be the more sensible decision.

He said: “What would I be thinking at this moment in time? For me, I would let it ride with Martin. I wouldn’t rush it.

“I would let the cup final come and go, maybe even up to the turn of the year, when the transfer window is about to open. It gives the club a bit of time to make what they think will be the right decision.

“Martin has fantastic experience and has done a fantastic job. If he doesn’t get the job full-time, and I don’t think that will be the case, not because he’s not done well, but because of the stage of life he’s at and all the travelling, I would still ask him to help.”
