Celtic will run the rule over Cameron Carter-Vickers’ fitness this weekend ahead of their trip to St Johnstone on Saturday evening.

The United States international has been taking injections to help deal with a foot problem that has persisted for a while, and Brendan Rodgers applauded his ‘bravery’ in light of the situation.

He stated: “He’s had an issue with his foot, and he’s been getting some injections for that. And we felt that the game during the week there, he is just so brave and so courageous, he wants to play and put himself out there, but we have to make sure we look after him as well because it’s a long season.”

Presumably, Rodgers will also have Borussia Dortmund next week in mind when making a decision on Carter-Vickers this weekend.

Auston Trusty and Stephen Welsh are among the other names that could come in besides Liam Scales. Nevertheless, Peter Grant has highlighted why Celtic are always a richer side with the American featuring in their rearguard.

Speaking on the Go Radio Football Show, Grant has highlighted how the presence of Carter-Vickers helps to improve others that come in along side him.

He explained, firstly on his injury and importance: “It must not be bad enough that they can allow him to play, but he is a massive plus for Celtic when he plays and whoever plays along with him.

“Young Scales has been outstanding this season so far, credit to him, but anybody that plays along with Carter Vickers, I always think, steps up a notch because he gives them that confidence, and he’s very strong in the one-to-one moments and duels, which is important the way Celtic play.”

Later, he added: “I think the manager will just manage that just now (foot problem). The interesting thing would be if he wasn’t fit, would he go with two left footers in Trusty and Scales? That would be interesting because it’s very unusual.

“Would he go with Nawrocki? He came on at the weekend as a natural right sider there, but he’s not played games. So I think it would be Trusty he would be going with.”

Cameron Carter-Vickers could be rested for St Johnstone

Here on 67 Hail Hail, the prospect of Carter-Vickers being rested against St Johnstone has already been discussed.

Last week, Trusty made his full debut for Celtic against Falkirk after his inaugural minutes from the bench against Slovan Bratislava, so he has enjoyed some time to bed into his new surroundings.

Nevertheless, Rodgers has a balance to find with his changes over the next few games as the schedule intensifies for Celtic. Hopefully, he can find a way to navigate the congestion successfully.
