Peter Grant reacts to Robbie Keane being linked to another Premiership job after Celtic manager talk

Many Celtic supporters will be breathing a sigh of relief that Robbie Keane isn’t the manager for next season.

For a few weeks, there was strong talk that it could be the case before Martin O’Neill’s return to Celtic was confirmed for next season.

But Keane could yet turn up at Parkhead for the 2026/27 Premiership campaign; that’s because he has been linked with the vacant Hearts job.

When it was put to Peter Grant that Keane could go to Hearts, he was having none of it and completely dismissed it on Go Radio.

“I don’t see that happening,” said Grant. “I don’t think the Hearts fans would be happy with that either.”

Thoughts Celtic fans? 🤔

All of this stems from all the changes at Tynecastle this summer.

After Celtic won the title on the last day of the season, it has been a nightmare few months for the Jambos.

It all started with Lawrence Shankland leaving for Rangers, and he seemingly moved on a free transfer because he had a clause in his contract.

And now Derek McInnes has gone to Ibrox, which means there will be a lot of new faces at Hearts next term.

But Grant can’t see Keane at another Premiership gig in Scotland.

Instead, he can see the former striker, who represented the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Wolves during his playing career, at a job in England.

Paul Cooney: “Robbie Keane was mentioned a few weeks ago for the Celtic job. He was very much in contention; now it’s Martin O’Neill.

“He has been mentioned as the bookies’ favourite for the Hearts job.”

Grant: “I don’t see that happening. I don’t think the Hearts fans would be happy with that either.

“Robbie, you look at his backlog of games as a manager, and he has done exceptionally well.

“But I don’t think Robbie would go to Hearts. I think he would wait. He would like to come back to England, maybe. I think there is an opportunity that will arise for him in England somewhere. I have no doubt about that.”
