Peter Grant says Celtic defender is the only Hoops star who has ‘consistently’ been ‘above seven’

Celtic need to get their act together pretty quickly.

Yes, Celtic have proven that they can have a cigar in their mouth, and still win the Premiership title by a landslide, as they proved last season.

But that doesn’t mean that these current performances should be accepted, and Brendan Rodgers has called it out by stating the team has been ‘nowhere near good enough.’

Only very few Celtic players can hold their heads up high, and Peter Grant made sure to give one man in the backline his flowers.

Liam Scales is Celtic’s only ‘consistent’ performer

Liam Scales divides opinion, but he deserves his flowers for how he has started this current campaign, despite the mess of Celtic missing out on Champions League football and struggling to score goals.

That’s why Grant thinks Scales is probably the only Hoops star who has ‘consistently’ performed at a seven this term.

Speaking on Go Radio, Grant is hoping, Celtic’s bench, which showed its worth after the late win over Motherwell last time out, will now go on a run in the coming months.

“Celtic will get better, because they will look at their bench as getting stronger with the guys coming back,” said Grant.

“Guys are getting a bit more game time. Bernardo, Luke McCowan, all coming on, Engels and Balikwisha. They have all been on the bench. The bench even looks stronger.

“I said to you, there was probably one in Scales who was above a seven consistently. The rest of them, I don’t think, have been at the levels they have been capable of.

“So, I still think that is to come with Celtic.”

Scales’ stats for Celtic this season

Scales has started every game, bar the League Cup clash against Falkirk this season, as he has used Auston Trusty’s injury issues to cement his place in the Celtic XI.

Let’s be honest, last season, Trusty and Scales couldn’t stay in the team, as their performances were up and down.

But you can’t say that about the Irishman this term, who has probably been Celtic’s best performing player.
