Celtic have had major problems in midfield this season as Brendan Rodgers has had to deal with injury issues in key areas.
The Celtic manager has been without Reo Hatate for much of this season and now faces having to deal with the loss of his captain, Callum McGregor, after a recent injury update delivered this week.
Coupled with the loss of Aaron Mooy at the start of the season and the recent dip in Matt O’Riley’s form, there have been midfield issues that have plagued Rodgers for much of this season.
However, with Hatate nearing fitness and O’Riley starting to look sharp again, things are looking up a swe we enter the crucial title run-in.
But could our midfield problems have been alleviated if Celtic made a key signing just a few short seasons ago? Peter Grant seems to think so.
The former Celtic hero was speaking about Lewis Ferguson as he laments how the Parkhead club didn’t take the opportunity to sign him before his move to Bologna.
Grant said [The Go Radio Football Show], “To captain them [Bologna] as well and to speak Italian, all these things, he’s been a credit to himself and his family to go and do that and grab it with both hands. He’s been magnificent.
“But we said Celtic or Rangers should have taken him. And we said it all that time long ago before how well he has done.
“We said at that particular time that the season prior, he was playing in the wrong position for Aberdeen.”
Lewis Ferguson at Celtic?
There is no doubt that Ferguson is a talented player. But could he really have made it at Celtic at the time of his move to the Serie A?
At the time of the move in 2022, Celtic had Callum McGregor, Reo Hatate, Aaron Mooy, David Turnbull and Matt O’Riley all competing for a first-team place at the club.

So it could be argued that whilst he would have been a good signing at the time, it was really unlikely that Ferguson could have broken into the first-team squad never mind the starting eleven had he made the switch to Celtic Park.
And whilst we cannot deny his quality now, no one could have foreseen his rapid rise to stardom in Italy.
Now heavily tipped to join Juventus, Ferguson looks set to net Aberdeen a pretty penny should the Old Lady make their move in the summer.
In other news, Andy Walker now believes there is a player at Motherwell who could play for Celtic
