Peter Grant shares the bizarre reason why Celtic star Nicolas Kuhn ‘drives me crazy’

Nicolas Kuhn has hit a brick wall at Celtic.

When Celtic beat Rangers in the League Cup final at Hampden in December, Kuhn scored during the 3-3 thriller that led to a penalty shootout win, and he was finally flying in the green and white colours.

After those six months of struggle, when Kuhn joined the champions from Rapid Wien in January 2024, there were suggestions that he was a Player of the Year contender.

But life hits you hard, especially in a pressure cooker environment like Celtic, and things have become rather difficult for the all-action winger in recent months.

Now, it’s pretty obvious that Kuhn won’t win Player of the Year, especially given that he was subbed off at half-time during the defeat to St Johnstone at the weekend.

But it’s not just his performances that have resulted in Peter Grant being critical of him.

Peter Grant says Celtic winger Nicolas Kuhn ‘drives me crazy’

Don’t get it twisted, Grant is a ‘big supporter’ of Kuhn, and he has made that clear on several occasions.

But that doesn’t mean he can’t be critical of the 25-year-old, who he urged to ‘stand up to the plate’ and produce a ‘big performance’ for the champions-elect, as he told Go Radio.

Grant also added how Kuhn’s ‘moody face’, when he is playing, scoring or assisting for Celtic, is ‘driving me crazy’.

“As I said to you about Nicolas Kuhn, you know that I am a big supporter,” said Grant. “But I think since the Rangers game (League Cup final), he hasn’t played well as he did. There is no doubt in my mind to that.

“I think he needs to stand up to the plate. He needs a big performance with and without the ball to show people.

“I know he plays with that moody face, which drives me crazy, he plays with that moody face. You know what I am saying. Even when he has scored or made a fantastic pass, or whatever.

“Enjoy it, because it’s the best days of your life, and you maybe won’t have that support ever in your life again. For supporters who love you and are desperate for you to do well. All these things as a player.”

Kuhn’s fall-off in numbers

As mentioned above, up until that Rangers match at Hampden, nobody had a bad word to say about Kuhn, and everything was on the up.

His goals and assists record were rather impressive – he had 14 goals to his name in all competitions and 11 assists.

But since then, there has been a fall-off, and he will be lucky if he keeps his place in Rodgers’ XI for the clash against Kilmarnock.
