All the headlines over the Celtic vs Rangers League Cup final have been dominated by one topic and one topic only.

The furore over Celtic defender, Liam Scales’ penalty challenge has caused a right good meltdown this week and has deflected not just heat from Philippe Clement but also publicity over what was one of the most thrilling cup finals in a generation.

Celtic beat Rangers on penalties to lift the first piece of silverware of the season but instead of talking about the actual football, the penalty controversy has taken the shine of the game.

However, it appears that there is a clear decision that Celtic never got after Peter Grant shared how he can’t believe Rangers weren’t shown a red card for a challenge by Jefte on Hoops winger Nicolas Kuhn.

Grant was dumbfounded that the match referee and VAR never spotted Jefte’s studs raking the back of Kuhn’s leg in Sunday’s League Cup final.

Grant told The Go Radio Football Show [13m], “I thought it was a red. I said at the time, I’ve played the game, so I understand exactly what he was doing.

“He was doing a reducer. He’s quick. That’s what it was. He’s thinking to himself, ‘e’s quick. He’s going to run me. I’m going to make sure that he’s feeling something’.

“And listen, we’ve all done it.

“100%. Okay. I don’t know if it went to VAR,” continued Grant, “Obviously, I’m at the game and I didn’t know if it went to VAR.

“But I know exactly what he’d done. He gets a booking for it. But he’s gone right down with his six studs, down his Achilles. And that is to slow you down.

“There is absolutely no doubt of that. And you could see the look on his face right away. And you could see the look on one of his teammates.

“I can’t remember what teammate looked at the referee right away as if to see what colour he was pulling out. I can’t believe that people never saw.”

The game is over, Celtic have won but it seems that the game is now being spoken about for all the wrong reasons as the meltdown continues over the non-penalty award.

Celtic have suffered their fair share of poor VAR decisions over the years and as the Parkhead fans are always told, these things, apparently, even themselves out over the course of the season.

Celtic now have Dundee United on Sunday to look forward to as Brendan Rodgers looks to continued his charge towards the Scottish Premiership title.
