Man City’s reported interest in Kyogo Furuhashi has certainly been at the top of the Celtic headlines this week.
The Celtic support have been bracing themselves and, dare I say, have come to terms with the possibility of losing Matt O’Riley to Brighton.
So to lose their top goalscorer in the same season would be devastating for the Celtic fans. However, Peter Grant has a different take on this rumour.
The former Celtic hero says the Hoops support should be happy that Kyogo Furuhashi is being courted by Man City and here, he explains why.
Grant ‘not sure’ if Kyogo can replace Alvarez
Whilst Grant believes there is a positive side to Pep Guardiola wanting Kyogo, the former Celtic man is unsure the Japanese striker will be the direct replacement for Julian Alvarez who left City to join Atletico Madrid.
Grant told The Go Radio Football Show, “Listen, the pleasing thing for me is if that if it was true, it means that Manchester City, probably the best club side in the world, not just in Europe, are interested in one of your players, it tells you you’re doing something right.
“And I keep saying it, I hope that everybody’s going to be interested in Celtic players because it means they’re doing their job properly, they’re winning trophies and their best players are coming to the fore.
“We hope we can keep on to them, of course, but he’s a top, top quality player. But Manchester City level, I’m not sure, because I think he’s completely different from Alvarez, completely different.
“And if that’s who they’re getting them to replace, I don’t see that being the case.”

As it has been widely reported, Kyogo is not going to City to become the main striker as they already have Erlin Haaland.
However, the main crux of Grant’s point, although is bang on, is bittersweet. If Celtic were not successful then teams like Man City wouldn’t come anywhere near our players.
And whilst the thought of losing Kyogo would be a major blow, no Celtic fan could begrudge him the chance of working under Pep Guardiola with some of the best players in the world should he come calling.
