Kasper Schmeichel was in all probability, Celtic’s most important signing this summer.
Filling those gloves after Joe Hart’s retirement was always going to be a tough ask for anyone coming in and taking over from the former Celtic favourite.
Celtic fans know how important it is to have a reliable goalkeeper between the sticks after the disastrous signing of Vasilis Barkas so waiting to see who Brendan Rodgers would get in was a nervy time for the supporters.
As it was, Kasper Schmeichel was signed and he has proven to be a perfect replacement for the retired Hart which has pleased the vast majority of the Celtic supporters.
The Hoops fans are not the only people who are happy with the move as Peter Schmeichel tells Roy Keane why Celtic has been the best mover for his son.
‘Amazing’ Celtic is ‘perfect’ for Kasper Schmeichel
Peter Schmeichel has been enjoying life as a pundit and helped Kasper with advice after Celtic’s loss to Borussia Dortmund this week.
And here, he tells former Celtic midfielder and Man United legend, Keane, why the Parkhead move has left him feeling ‘privileged’.
Schmeichel told the Stick To Football podcast, “It’s perfect. It’s perfect. With the manager he knows, the atmosphere around, I mean, Celtic is just a massive, massive club. You know that better than me, but the team they have, it’s amazing.
“I feel so privileged that I can have those moments. When we played, you guys in the Euros, I’m there for Fox and I’m interviewing my own son, which is on many, many levels, completely weird and wrong and all that, but it’s also something I will treasure forever.
“You know, it was really a big moment for me.”
Kasper Schmeichel’s instant impact at Celtic
In nine domestic appearances for Celtic, Scheichel has equalled the record for six consecutive clean sheets in the Scottish top flight.

He has the chance to break that record against Ross County on Sunday. Overall though, the 37-year-old had yet to concede a goal at all in Scotland.
In Europe, even in the Dortmund game, Schmeichel has proven his worth by pulling off some great saves in the Champions League.
His distribution and leadership helps keep Celtic calm and assured when pressed at the back and he is a real presence in Brendan Rodgers’ team.
The big Dane has proven to be more than a reliable replacement for Hart and will hopefully feature heavily in Celtic’s successes this season.
