Former Celtic winger Lewis Morgan has signed a lucrative new multi-year contract with Major League Soccer outfit Inter Miami.
The club announced the deal yesterday and declared it utilised Targeted Allocation Money (TAM).
TAM can be used to re-sign existing players whose salary costs are more than the maximum salary budget charge.
Morgan had an excellent debut year in Miami, earning the club’s Most Valuable Player award in 2020 despite the presence of more high profile stars such as Blaise Matuidi and Gonzalo Higuain.
He scored five goals and assisted five more in his debut campaign after leaving Celtic.
New Inter Miami head coach Phil Neville has made it clear signing Morgan up for the long-term was one of his big pre-season priorities.
He told The Miami Herald: “Sometimes the most important signings are those from within the club, the renewal of a contract, the reward for Lewis for his outstanding performances last season.
“That was the first thing we agreed on, the fact that this boy had a great season, we need to make sure we keep showing him this club values him really highly.
“He’s a player who’s hungry. I like hungry players. I need someone that wants to get better, wants to improve.
“He shows all the attributes of all the great Scottish people I’ve worked with and in the performances that I’ve seen in training so far, I think he’s a real leader in the group.”

Morgan never quite developed into the player we hoped he would at Celtic, but it’s fantastic to see him achieving elsewhere.
He made 31 appearances in total for the Hoops, with the majority of those coming from the substitute’s bench.
The club agreed on a fee for him in January of last year after failing to win his way into former manager Neil Lennon’s plans.
2021 could well be his biggest year yet, with Inter Miami clearly feeling he deserves the backing to shine across the Atlantic.
