Celtic have reportedly asked for permission from Glasgow City Council to build a new multi-use football pitch outside the club’s stadium.

The proposed pitch, in the grounds of Celtic Park, is to be available free of charge for local children.

The facility would be operated by the club’s foundation, which would reportedly cover all maintenance costs.

The full application details plans for a modern facility which will “enhance” the existing facilities of Celtic Park.

The report reads: “The facility is intended to provide a safe, secure and inclusive environment for children to participate in sport and outdoor play.

“This proposal seeks planning approval to deliver a modern, high-quality recreational facility that will provide significant social and community benefits for the children of the East End of Glasgow.

“The development will enhance the existing facilities at Celtic Park while supporting the ongoing charitable and community initiatives delivered by the Celtic FC Foundation.”

We will reportedly know by September eighth whether or not the plans get the green light from the council.

The application reportedly includes a safety fence which would be built around the multi-use games area (MUGA) to ensure safety outside of operating hours.

Earlier this year, it also emerged that talks are progressing for a new music venue to be built outside Celtic Park, described as a “smaller version of SWG3”.

The 940-capacity venue would built on empty land on the corner of Dalriada Street and London Road, next to the car park behind the Lisbon Lions stand.

Rumours also persist that Oasis could play at Celtic Park next spring, with the Gallagher brothers set to hit the road again after their reunion last year.

🔥 Heated topic, what do you think, Celtic fans…? 🔥

No music act has played a headline show at Celtic Park since Wet Wet Wet in 1997. That performance was originally scheduled for the previous day but was postponed due to the funeral of Princess Diana.

Paul McCartney planned a Celtic Park date in 2003, but this was cancelled.

A source told the Sunday Mail about a potential gig at Parkhead: “Nothing has been finalised and it is early days, but the Gallagher brothers are very keen to tour in 2027 and a return to Scotland would be a no-brainer if a deal can be done.

“Playing Murrayfield again could be a possibility, and Hampden Park is also in contention, but Liam and Noel are big Celtic fans, and they would love to play Celtic Park.

“Their mum Peggy was born in Ireland and is a huge Celtic supporter, so if a deal could be done to play Parkhead, they would be delighted.”
