Celtic progressed into the League Cup semi-final yesterday afternoon after a hard-fought win over Championship side Falkirk at Celtic Park.
Behind for much of the game, it took until the 70th minute for Celtic to get a grip of the match in which they ran out comfortable 5-2 winners in a thrilling contest in the end.
It cannot be denied that there were nerves in the crowd and, it seems, in the team as Brendan Rodgers’ side struggled to break down a Falkirk side who were excellent for the majority of the match.
But it was Kasper Schmeichel‘s reaction to Adam Idah‘s double that, for me, encapsulates what many Celtic fans would have been feeling after the Republic of Ireland international’s two-minute double-salvo broke down a stubborn Falkirk side.
Kasper Schmeichel sums up Celtic fan feeling to Idah’s double
The frustration that many felt over a makeshift Celtic’s performance last night was summed up with Schmeichel’s reaction to Idah’s goals that put the team 3-2 up on the day and it was captured perfectly by Premier Sports’ cameras.
The first reaction was probably how many fans felt at the time. Schmeichel seemed to be saying to himself it was time to kick on and finish the game off.
But when Idah scored his second a mere two minutes later, the jubilation shown by the Celtic goalkeeper and his reaction to interacting with the Celtic fans was instantaneous.
Kasper Schmeichel proving his worth to Celtic
The big Dane proved fairly quickly that he was going to be a good signing for Celtic after some excellent performances in the US pre-season Tour.

A relative bystander in the 4-0 dismantling of Kilmarnock in the first game of the season, Schemiechel proved his worth with a couple of fine saves against Rangers and has played his part in Celtic equalling a Scottish Premiership clean-sheet record that has stood for 118 years.
His leadership and distribution at the back have given the Celtic defence a more solid and calm feel and Schmeichel’s experience looks like it could be the difference between making progress in Europe or not this season.
