Only 12 months ago, Nicolas Kuhn was entering the Celtic building and looking to make a name for himself.
But life didn’t begin in Glasgow like he wanted and many were questioning Kuhn when the final ball was kicked for the 2023/24 campaign.
This is despite Brendan Rodgers winning the double upon his return to Celtic and the dominance continuing.
Yet, fast forward to the present and Kuhn is now a star performer for Celtic, including probably the first name on the teamsheet.
Celtic fans have craved ready-made players and wanting to bring them in, but the powers that be have opted to go down the road of recruiting those unknown stars that turn into gems.
The now-departed Matt O’Riley is an example of that, including Kuhn and perhaps a heavily questioned Hyunjun Yang falls into that category also.
Hugh Keevins slammed over Hyunjun Yang comments
Yang joined Celtic during the summer of 2023 – six months before Kuhn – and he is yet to establish himself in the starting XI.
Hugh Keevins has been a critic of the South Korean star and thinks he ‘isn’t up to it’, as he told Clyde 1 Superscoreboard.
But presenter Gordon Duncan was quick to remind Keevins of his ‘fickle’ comments because he was questioning Kuhn last season, yet he has proven him wrong and so could Yang.

“I’m surprised Hugh didn’t mention that Yang didn’t score the other night and how delighted he was,” said Scott Allan about Yang’s goal against Dundee. To which Gordon Duncan responded sarcastically: “His favourite player.”
Keevins stated: “Come on now, let’s not start. Good luck to him. He scored the goal. But, once again, his performance was, I will say underwhelming and I won’t go into more deeply than that.”
Duncan then reminded Keevins: “Remember this time last year, you said the same about Nicolas Kuhn and now you have him down as Player of the Year. You are so fickle.”
Keevins responded: “Exactly. I made a career out of it. Brendan Rodgers really needs Kuhn, Maeda and Kyogo up front. Never mind the rest because they aren’t up to it and he has got a worry on his hands with Adam Idah.”
Yang’s stats for Celtic this season
Over the festive period, Yang was handed a fair few starts when the likes of Daizen Maeda and Kuhn were dealing with injuries and illness.
The 22-year-old scored in his last start – away at Dundee – but was on the bench for Celtic’s Scottish Cup win over Kilmarnock.
That’s because the main guys returned and Rodgers wanted to start his strongest XI ahead of the Champions League game against Young Boys.
