Celtic’s 1-0 win over Sarajevo confirmed the Hoops’ place in the group stages of this season’s Europa League. It also maintained a record of consistency that the club should be very proud of.

Celtic have qualified for the group stages of UEFA tournaments for 10 years in a row. That is a great achievement. In that time, Celtic have made the group stages of the Champions League four times, and the Europa League six times.

An achievement that Celtic’s official website was quick to point out.

There have been some great moments in those ten years. Two of which happened away from Celtic Park. One was the first ever Champions League group stage away win in 2012, against Spartak Moscow, a game which saw the Hoops win 3-2.

Hoops made history in Rome

Another came more recently, when the Hoops recorded their first ever win in Italy in last year’s 2-1 win over Lazio. Those were moments that few Celtic fans will ever forget.

Of course, this season the most important thing for Celtic is to win the league, and clinch 10 in a row. However, that does not mean that the club should be neglecting the Europa League. Indeed, it should be looking to better last season’s achievements for reaching the last 32.

Team can make up for disappointing reversal

The Hoops have most of the same squad which performed so well in Europe last season. There is no reason that Celtic can’t make up for last season’s loss to Copenhagen.

This season’s group stages will be slightly different compared to other years, as the games will be played in a much shorter time frame, for obvious reasons.

Celtic are used to playing non-stop football though. That should not be an issue to the players at Celtic Park. Hopefully this 10 in a row is the first of two that Celtic go on to achieve this season. That would certainly be something worth celebrating.

In other news, some Celtic fans praised Greg Taylor’s performance against Sarajevo.
