Paris Saint-Germain lifted the Champions League trophy after thrashing Inter 5-0 in a one-sided final in Munich on Sunday.

This was also the venue where Celtic’s Champions League campaign ended, after that late heartache against Vincent Kompany’s Bayern Munich in February.

Celtic reached the play-off stage, but the common consensus was that Brendan Rodgers’ side had vastly improved in Europe’s elite competition compared to previous campaigns.

But nobody improved like Luis Enrique’s PSG, who, after finishing 15th during the league phase of the newly revamped Champions League format, including six places above Celtic, went to levels not even their own fans thought they would.

The French club, at one point, were heading towards elimination and humiliation, but they turned it around and proved to be the best side in Europe. Hands down!

And now, with the domestic and European season officially over, PSG join Celtic on an elite list that bears only nine names in the history of football.

PSG join Celtic and win the continental treble after beating Inter in the Champions League final

This is a PSG side that sold Kylian Mbappe in the summer to Real Madrid, yet here they are, winning Europe’s greatest ever prize.

This is PSG’s first-ever European Cup success, and after walking towards the Ligue 1 trophy this term, as well as winning the Coupe de France, they have now lifted the continental treble.

In the history of the game, only nine clubs in total have achieved that feat, including Celtic’s legendary Lisbon Lions.

Don’t mess with Celtic’s history

You can’t buy history, and Celtic have plenty of it, including the future after becoming champions of Scotland again.

This time for a record-equalling 55th crown!

Added to that, Celtic are the only Scottish side to win Europe’s main prize, and it’s fair to say that’s something that will now stand forever.
